GulfSport’s Barry Hope said, “Formula Gulf 1000 was initially created to support ambitious young local karters and drivers. But it became apparent that drivers in other countries would also like to test and race here with us. Not surprising given the great facilities and weather we enjoy. So we have decided to open it up to foreign drivers. We will now accept applications from anyone holding a valid FIA race license with no restrictions on age”.

Drivers will attend a three day structured test program where they will benefit from personal mentoring by a professional race engineer, an international driver coach, a fitness specialist and a media expert. The testing will be attended by a representative of the FIA. A non-championship race will be held on April 15th.

“This is a perfect opportunity for aspiring young drivers to enter single seat racing,” said Richard Cregan, CEO of Yas Marina Circuit. “We are happy to support Formula Gulf 1000 with test days, since we feel the series provides all the elements that a young driver needs to develop and progress at this level of motorsport.”

Driving a high-downforce Formula One-style single seater racing car with a six speed sequential gearbox on Dunlop Formula 3 slick racing tyres, they will have the opportunity to fully explore the handling, grip and braking characteristics of a Formula car. Supported by an in-car camera and data logger, the driver coach will analyse their performance to offer expert advice and guidance to deliver continuous improvement in lap times in each of their track sessions.  The test days will be limited to five drivers to ensure maximum benefit.

Drivers not yet registered for the championship are also invited to take part in the three day testing program at Yas Marina Circuit. They will be encouraged to use the test days to invite family, sponsors and the media from their home country to showcase the professionalism and commitment involved at this level of racing. Their test fees will be deducted from their Full Season Entry Fee.

To cater for drivers who cannot commit to the whole season, individual race entries for the championship will be accepted, subject to availability of cars.
